Fractional CMO for fitness and wellness

Marketing leadership for fitness and wellness brands that need members to stay.

I'm Monica Hacker, a fractional CMO for fitness studios, gyms, recovery and IV clinics, and wellness brands. Intro offers that turn into memberships, retention that holds past month three, and one senior person accountable for the number.

Part of my beauty and wellness work. Based in New York and Miami.

The pattern

Most fitness and wellness marketing buys the first visit and loses the member.

The usual setup is an intro offer on Meta, a booking app, and a front desk following up between classes. Trials fill up. Most of them never buy a membership, and the ones who do drift off around month three. Nobody knows what a member costs to get, or what one is worth over a year.

So I start with the whole path. Which offers bring people who stay, where trials drop before they convert, and when members go quiet. Then the plan, in priority order.

What I run

How an engagement usually works.

01

First visits that convert

Paid social, search and local listings built around the intro offers that turn into members, not just bookings.

02

Trial to membership

Follow up in the first two weeks, booking that works on a phone, and front desk scripts that close the membership.

03

Retention and referrals

Win back timed to when members go quiet, email and SMS, reviews, referrals, and reporting on cost per retained member.

Who this is for

Who I tend to work best with.

A boutique studio, gym, recovery or IV clinic, or a wellness brand, with real media spend and an agency or in house person producing bookings that don't turn into members. Usually the founder is running the business, and what's missing is someone senior who owns the number.

This sits inside my beauty and wellness work. I also go deeper on med spas and supplement brands.

Where to start

Start with a Fitness and Wellness Growth Audit.

A prioritized read on acquisition, trial conversion, retention and member value, delivered in 5 days.

What I look at first

  • Acquisition: which offers and channels bring members who stay
  • Trial conversion: where first visits drop before they buy
  • Retention: when members go quiet, and why
  • Member value: what a member is actually worth over a year
  • The verdict: where growth is leaking and what to fix first

All questions →

What does a fractional CMO do for a fitness or wellness business?

Owns growth end to end: strategy, paid and local acquisition, the path from first visit to membership, retention, and reporting on cost per retained member. With me you also get the AI system that keeps the reporting and first pass work running.

How much does a fractional CMO cost for a fitness or wellness brand?

From $8,500 a month, 4 month minimum, review at month 3. Paid acquisition on its own from $4,500 a month. A Growth Audit is $1,500, and it's how most engagements kick off.

Do you work with IV and recovery clinics?

Yes. IV, recovery and medical wellness clinics have the same membership problem as a studio, plus advertising rules on health claims. I build creative and tracking that stay inside those rules.

Do you work with one studio or several locations?

Both. With more than one location, the plan tracks cost and retention by location so you can see which ones are working. For a wellness product brand, the same thinking applies to reorders instead of renewals.

What I do

Four ways to work with me.

Let's turn first visits into members.

I take on a few new clients each quarter. If your business is ready to grow, let's talk.

Thirty minutes. Bring your numbers, or just bring the problem. You'll leave knowing what I'd fix first.
