Fractional CMO for fashion and apparel brands
I'm Monica Hacker. I started my career as a brand manager in fashion and built growth for Stitch Fix. Now I work as a fractional CMO for clothing and apparel brands: paid, retention, drops, returns and the AI system that runs it, with one senior person accountable for the number.
Part of my DTC and ecommerce work. Based in New York and Miami.
$10M+in ad spend managed
6.2xreturn on ad spend
$2MARR, grown from $300K for one brand
60%lower cost to acquire a customer
“She doesn't just come in and tell you what you should be doing. She actually gets in there and does it.”
HuggiesThe pattern
The usual picture: Meta carries the business, every collection needs a discount to sell through, and returns quietly eat the margin. Email goes to everyone. Nobody can say what a customer is worth after returns.
So I start with the economics. What a customer is worth after returns and discounts, which products bring people back, how fit and sizing drive returns, and where creative fatigue is costing you. Then the plan, in priority order.
What I run
01
Meta, Google and creator content with a testing calendar that keeps up with drops and seasons.
02
Email and SMS built around launches, restocks and what each customer actually buys.
03
Discount discipline, fewer returns through better fit guidance and product pages, and reporting on profit after returns.
Who this is for
A clothing, apparel or accessories brand selling online, already spending on growth, with a team or an agency and nobody senior connecting the pieces.
This sits inside my DTC and ecommerce work. Running on Shopify? See fractional CMO for Shopify brands.
Where to start
A prioritized read on acquisition, margin after returns, retention and discovery, delivered in 5 days.
What I look at first
Owns growth end to end: paid and creators, drops and retention, discount and returns strategy, and reporting on profit after returns.
From $8,500 a month, 4 month minimum, review at month 3. Paid acquisition on its own from $4,500 a month. A Growth Audit is $1,500, and it's how most engagements kick off.
Better fit guidance, honest product pages and photography, and a close look at which products and customers drive returns. The audit shows what returns are costing you.
Yes. The playbook shifts toward brand and retention with less discounting, and the job stays the same: owning the number.
What I do
I take on a few new clients each quarter. If your brand is ready to grow, let's talk.
